The first fundraising email I sent
Subj: An Avi update and fundraising request.
First off, we can't thank everyone enough for following and thinking about Avi in all her adventures in the crazy show biz world. I know I've been able to talk with many of you at length about the pressures and rewards (mostly pressures) of this industry. This film is, by far, one of the great rewards of all of her hard work.
First off, we can't thank everyone enough for following and thinking about Avi in all her adventures in the crazy show biz world. I know I've been able to talk with many of you at length about the pressures and rewards (mostly pressures) of this industry. This film is, by far, one of the great rewards of all of her hard work.
This is an amazing project that Avi is thrilled to be a part of. Here is the nutshell of her involvement....this production is an absolute, home-grown Austin original independent film. With that, Avi has developed a great reputation and has lots of buzz going in LA now but here in Austin, she's garnered quite the reputation among the up-and-coming as well as already established film makers in our area. As I'm sure most everyone knows, Austin is VERY "on the map" for film making and this film will absolutely is no exception. Production for this film sought out Avi and were sure that she was the right fit for the lead and hopeful she would accept the role. As soon as we read the script, she and I both flipped and after meeting the director and some of the other production crew, she said that she HAD to be a part of it. She accepted the role and it has become an obsession for her and she's thrilled to be part of what promises to be an amazing independent film.
A few more details are that this is a SAG (Screen Actors Guild) film and will run 30 minutes putting it in to the "Short" category. It has been such a wonderful experience already...top notch production, photos, interviews, etc. Several of these photo shoots have been for the animators since for several of her scenes she will be animated! She was especially excited as this will be her first time for live animation. She has been sketched on storyboards many times but it's just not the same. :-) She will be filming mid-August in and around the Austin area with the deadline for completion at the end of October. The goal of the film is to be entered into Academy-nominating festivals only (the first of which will be our own SXSW!). So, when Avi found that out, she instantly said that this is her Oscar. I would say LOL but, I never doubt that girl. Seriously, it will be in the "Shorts" category but I really do see it getting major attention....first class production, story and talent!

She has been a part of many, many productions (most of which are on her professional resume but not listed on her IMDB or Facebook) that have had Kickstarter fundraising campaigns. While many of them were certainly worthy of funding, I have never wanted to bombard everyone with fundraising requests but, most importantly, I've always wanted to be very careful about what we involved our friends and family in and make absolutely sure that it would be absolutely first class, with tons of potential and be something that you all could be ridiculously proud to be a part of. THIS IS IT!!!
This film will be one for the ages and Avi is the lead!! After it has made the festival circuit (and hopefully gotten her that Oscar she's after), the director has plans to get it into schools as part of our much neglected Music Appreciation programs.
As for the film itself, I guess the best way I can sum it up is to directly quote what my wonderful Aunt Terry had to say about it, "Alice in Wonderland, meets Fantasia, meets Harry Potter, meets animation, meets the lovely Avi Lake, with a twist. Love it!!" :-)

She has had regular recurring roles on numerous TV shows and appeared in the Oscar-Nominated "Joe" in 1970 as Peter Boyle's mousy wife, May Lou. She may best be remembered as portraying Clark Kent's mother, Martha Kent, in Lois & Clark: "The New Adventures of Superman". K has appeared on Star Trek: Deep Space 9, Dallas, Coach, Crossing Jordan, Without a Trace, The Mentalist and many others.
